Meru County Embraces Warehouse Receipting System to Boost Agricultural Sector
The Chairperson of the Council, Ms. Felicity Nkirote Biriri, alongside MSEA Board Chair James Mureu, Board member Margaret Gitonga, MSEA CEO, and representatives from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) led the team in a courtesy call to the Meru County Governor, Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza. The primary objective was to introduce and establish collaboration on the implementation of the warehouse receipt system within the county. The system aims to utilize warehousing facilities spread across Meru by certifying existing facilities.
During the discussions, James Mureu, the MSEA Board Chair, reaffirmed the commitment of the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) to collaborate closely with the Meru County Government and the Council. A key focus of this collaboration is the operationalization of the Ngusishi potato cold storage facility. This strategic partnership intends to harness the potential of the cold storage facility to significantly benefit local farmers in the county.
Following the courtesy call, the delegation proceeded to assess the readiness of the Ngusishi Cold Storage facility. The evaluation aimed to ensure that the cold storage aligns with the standards set by the Council for certification. The technical team from the Council will provide recommendations for any necessary improvements to enhance the efficiency and functionality of the cold storage facility to be under the Warehouse Receipt System.
The collaborative efforts between the Meru County Government, MSEA, and the Council signify a promising development towards modernizing agricultural practices and enhancing market access for local farmers.
