Strengthening Efficiency and Integrity in Commodity Storage and Trading
The Council, in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), successfully conducted a capacity-building training on the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) Operations Manual in Nakuru County. The training aimed to equip potential and (re)certified Warehouse Operators with the knowledge and skills needed to uphold the integrity of the Warehouse Receipt, mitigate operational risks, and ensure standardized professional care for stored commodities.
Key Takeaways from the Training;
Participants gained a deeper understanding of the WRS Operations Manual, including warehouse management procedures, receipt issuance, and regulatory compliance, ensuring smooth and transparent operations.
Operators were trained on proper sampling techniques using various samplers, reducing errors in grain quality assessments. Additionally, they enhanced their ability to test for aflatoxins, ensuring better food safety and quality compliance.
The training covered strategies to identify and mitigate operational risks, including warehouse structure risks, receipt fraud, and post-harvest management challenges, safeguarding the integrity of the Warehouse Receipt System.
Through practical sessions on weighing, stacking techniques, and moisture loss calculations, operators developed the skills needed to minimize storage losses and maintain accurate stock records.
