Council Participates in Agriculture and Food Authority’s Farmers’ Field Day to Highlight WRS and Promote Clean Seedling Distribution
The Council took part in the Farmers’ Field Day held in Elburgon, Nakuru County, an event organized by the Agriculture and Food Authority under the theme: “Clean Planting Materials for Increased Productivity.” This important initiative sought to raise awareness of the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) and its transformative value proposition for the agricultural sector.
The event served as a platform to sensitize farmers, farmer groups, and key stakeholders on how WRS can significantly reduce post-harvest losses, improve access to markets, and offer affordable financing solutions. By promoting the system, the initiative aligns closely with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), aiming to strengthen food security and bring greater structure to Kenya’s commodity trade landscape.
A key highlight of the day was the launch of the distribution of clean pyrethrum seedlings to farmers.
The event was officially launched by Hon. Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, who was joined by top government officials including the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, and the Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Hon. Kiprono Rono. The Governors of Nakuru, Nyandarua, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet also attended, along with farmer representatives from across the participating counties.
