Driving Kenya’s Agricultural Transformation through e-WRS Central Registry Roll-out
The Council has successfully completed the core development of the electronic Warehouse Receipt System Central Registry (e-WRS-CR) platform and launched structured training ahead of its nationwide roll-out.Last week, WRSC concluded its week-long Training of Trainers (ToT) program for internal users. This training is a key step in building capacity to guide and support stakeholders in adopting the system. The opening session, led by Ag. CEO Ms. Lucy Komen, recognized the strong collaboration with partners including FCDO, TradeMark Africa, IFC Africa, and CSM.
The ToT program is the first in a series of workshops aimed at preparing warehouse operators, collateral managers, financial institutions, and trading platforms such as KOMEX, CMX, Chai Trading, and the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE). A major milestone is the planned integration of the e-WRS Central Registry with the NCE, enabling electronic warehouse receipts (e-WRs) that guarantee quality, quantity, and traceability. These receipts will serve as secure collateral for financing, helping farmers and cooperatives avoid distress sales and access better credit. The system will also feed auction data directly into the NCE platform, boosting transparency, price discovery, and secure trading.
As part of Kenya’s commitment under the AfCFTA, WRSC is also working to ensure seamless integration with regional trading platforms, strengthening cross-border trade and market access. With the roll-out of the e-WRS Central Registry, WRSC aims to modernize Kenya’s agricultural value chains by delivering transparency, quality assurance, improved financing, and better prices making trade more competitive, resilient, and farmer-friendly.
