CS Lee Kinyanjui Backs Nationwide Rollout of Warehouse Receipt System
The Warehouse Receipt System Council, led by Chairperson Ms. Felicity Biriri and Ag. CEO Ms. Lucy Komen, met with Hon. Lee Kinyanjui, Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, to discuss the National Strategy and Implementation Framework for the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS).
A key outcome of the meeting was the government’s commitment to leverage the Strategic Food Reserve (SFR) procurement process to validate and scale up the WRS. By purchasing commodities through warehouse receipts, the government can stimulate nationwide adoption, create strong market signals, and build confidence among value chain actors.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized that widespread adoption of the WRS will not only protect farmers from price volatility but also stabilize market supply and improve food security plans.
Strengthening the WRS is central to transforming agricultural trade in Kenya by unlocking credit, promoting structured commodity markets, and ensuring farmers earn more from their produce.
