Advancing the Warehouse Receipt System for Potatoes in Meru County
The Council, in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Authority (MSEA), has successfully concluded a week-long sensitization program in Meru County. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) within the potato value chain, pre-inspect potential warehouses for certification, and engage organized cooperatives in preparation for the WRS operationalization in the region.

Governor H.E. Kawira Mwangaza expressed her strong support for the WRS initiative, emphasizing its alignment with Meru County’s development agenda and its potential to help farmers reduce post-harvest losses. She pledged her support for the upcoming warehouse infrastructure audit, which will evaluate the readiness of local facilities for certification and operationalization.
The County Government recognized the significant role of MSEA in developing the Ngusishi Potato Cold Storage Facility, a critical project that will support the WRS and play a key role in minimizing post-harvest losses in the potato sector.
