Tree Growing and Community Sensitization in Mai Mahiu
Kamuchira village, located in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, experienced severe environmental and social challenges following devastating flash floods in early 2024. The disaster led to the loss of lives, livestock, homes, and businesses, leaving the community deeply affected and struggling to rebuild their lives.
In response, the council collaborated with the Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) to grow 3,000 trees as an environmental conservation initiative. This program aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and fostering resilience to avert the risk of future disasters.
The initiative also emphasizes the importance of community involvement. By actively participating in tree planting and care, residents are united in a shared mission to restore their environment. This collective effort not only strengthens social bonds but also provides opportunities for environmental education, ensuring that sustainable practices are passed on to future generations.
