The Council, in partnership with AGRA, has strengthened farmer capacity on the Warehouse Receipt System and post-harvest management through a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme targeting farmer representatives from Nakuru, Laikipia, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia counties.
The training brought together representatives from Mauka, Njoro Cereals Promoters, Mavuno Marketing, Ng’arua Cereals, Msinduka and Kuona Mbele Farmers’ Cooperative Societies, as well as the Cereal Growers Association (CGA).
Participants gained practical knowledge, skills and training materials to enable them to cascade the training to farmers within their respective cooperatives, societies and counties. The programme forms part of the Council’s efforts to develop a network of resource persons who can accelerate WRS adoption and promote improved post-harvest management at the farmer level.
Building on similar ToT programmes conducted in Bungoma and Tharaka Nithi counties, the latest training expands the Council’s capacity-building efforts across key agricultural regions ahead of the harvest season.
WRSC CEO, Ms. Lucy Komen, commissioned the newly trained resource persons and awarded certificates to participants who completed the programme, recognizing their commitment to promoting best practices in post-harvest management and structured commodity trade.
The certified trainers pledged to support farmers in transitioning from price takers to price setters by promoting the Warehouse Receipt System across Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Laikipia and Nakuru counties.
Through strategic partnerships and targeted capacity building, the Council continues to strengthen the networks and knowledge required to reduce post-harvest losses, improve market access and empower farmers to participate more effectively in structured agricultural markets.
